In a nutshell, I write for my voice, what I want to sing, what I want to express and communicate.
I eschew the “simple complexity” of western common practice (particularly in new music) whereby ideas or instruments are simply stacked to create the impression of grandiose or “difficult” music
If forced to describe my style, I say I am a “voluptuous minimalist” – which is an apparent contradiction in terms. Despite the visually sparse layout of my writing, it is more Baroque than Reich, more expressive than militant – a repetition that changes meaning vs stasis.
I strive for “complex simplicity” (a philosophy which also pervades my poetry) – distilling expression to its barest essence, and its core.
